چکیده

Abstract Prior to the Voyagers’ heliopause crossings, models and community expected magnetic field show major rotations across boundary. Surprisingly, showed no significant change in direction from heliospheric Parker Spiral at either Voyager location. Meanwhile, a result IBEX mission is derived magnitude of interstellar far Sun (∼1000 au) beyond influence heliosphere. Using self-consistent model fit ribbon data, Zirnstein et al. reported that this “pristine” local has 0.293 nT 227° ecliptic longitude 34.°6 latitude. These values differ by 27% (51%) 44° (12°) what 1 (2) currently observes (as ∼2022.75). While differences are be as undrapes away heliosphere, global structure draping hundreds astronimcal units not been reconciled. This leads several questions: How these distinct sets observations reconcilable? What field’s large-scale structure? out would future need go sample unperturbed field? Here, we if realistic errors included for difficult-to-calibrate radial component, measured transverse consistent with predicted IBEX, allowing us answer questions through unified picture behavior its around unfolding into pristine medium.

Charting the Interstellar Magnetic Field Causing the Interstellar Boundary Explorer (ibex) Ribbon of Energetic Neutral Atoms

The interstellar magnetic field (ISMF) near the heliosphere is a fundamental component of the solar galactic environment that can only be studied using polarized starlight. The results of an ongoing survey of the linear polarizations of local stars are analyzed with the goal of linking the ISMF that shapes the heliosphere to the nearby field in interstellar space. We present new results on the ...

Interstellar Probe: Impact of the Voyager and IBEX results on science and strategy

The ongoing Voyager Interstellar Mission (VIM) and recent observations from the Interstellar Boundary Explorer (IBEX) and Cassini missions are providing significant new information about the interaction of the heliosphere with the very local interstellar medium (VLISM). With new observations have come significant new puzzles for describing the interaction physics. Direct measurements of the sho...

The orientation of the local interstellar magnetic field.

The orientation of the local interstellar magnetic field introduces asymmetries in the heliosphere that affect the location of heliospheric radio emissions and the streaming direction of ions from the termination shock of the solar wind. We combined observations of radio emissions and energetic particle streaming with extensive three-dimensional magnetohydrodynamic computer simulations of magne...

Voyager Interstellar Mission

The Voyager Interstellar Mission is exploring the interaction of the heliosphere with the local interstellar medium (LISM). Voyager 1 (V1) and Voyager 2 (V2) are both in the heliosheath, making the first in situ observations of the shocked solar wind beyond the termination shock (TS). The heliosheath extends to the heliopause; beyond the heliopause is the interstellar medium. The goal of the Vo...

High Magnetic Field Pulsars and Magnetars: A Unified Picture.

We propose a unified picture of high magnetic field radio pulsars and magnetars by arguing that they are all rotating high-field neutron stars but that their magnetic axes have different orientations with respect to their rotation axes. In strong magnetic fields where photon splitting suppresses pair creation near the surface, the high-field pulsars can have active inner accelerators while the ...
